We made it back up to the hot yellowtail area and found that they were still biting. Not as fast and as furious as we left them, but not the less a great day to end the trip on. Due to the forecast weather, we are packing up our rods and reels and heading for the barn at this point. It was a good trip, with everyone on the boat having smiles on their faces and plenty of fish to take home.

Today was spent on the ridge with high hopes of catching a bunch of yellowtail. But, alas the conditions were not favorable for these fish. Current is the number one factor for catching these types of fish and of this we had none. Jim Sullivan had the outstanding catch of a 70 pound gulf grouper. In the past couple times of trying this spot we have hooked plenty of these fish, but we have only landed this one. Good going Jim!

It was a long a brutal day on the tuna grounds. With all the sign we saw yesterday, and we did see fish today, they just did not want to bite whatsoever. The weather is still the same, and fortunately we did catch and release some dorado and marlin so it wasn"t a total loss. The fish are still there they were just in a non-biting funk. Sometimes fishing is slow, we don't have to like it, but it is a fact of life.

What we lacked in other fishes today we made up for with YELLOWFIN. It was fun today as we ended our day with 53 yellowfin in the 50 to 80 pound range, about a dozen marlin released and kept another bunch of dorado. During one of the bites in the morning we had the fish eating the paint off the corner and would have bit the X-tra heavy gear. For an up to the minute report you can go to www.BigFshHappen.com and hear the new podcast from earlier this afternoon. For the thirteen passengers on-board it was an exciting day, and the wind was hardly noticed, funny how that is.

Don't you wish you were here? We have spots available in the near future. Come on, go fishing.

What we lacked in the yellowfin department today was made up for with great dorado fishing. Most of these fish were in the ten to twenty pound range and once you got on the the right spot of them they really wanted to chew. Unfortunately the weather is up and sort of making it a tad uncomfortable.

Hello Shogun fans,
Today we fished the ridge for yellowtail and grouper, we caught yellowtail but no grouper we hooked 8 but lost them all. the yellowtail were 12-18 pounds.
we left the ridge at dark to make bait. the bait making was slow until the last hour. but we did fill a tank and a half of nice green mackerel on onboard.after bait making we headed for the tuna grounds in which we plan to put the mackerel to good use

Last nights bait making went okay, we were done by 11:00. This morning started off right with five yellows coming over the rail in short order, then nothing. We picked up the anchor and did some looking, and then some more looking and really not finding much, I made the decision to try Chester's. Ummmm, just that word stirs deep emotions in the yellowtail angler. Although it seems that it has been along time since anyone has caught anything there, we had to go and keep it honest. What we found were excellent conditions and some biting yellowtail. From 11:00 until about 14:30 we kept one to five going, in short, it was good fishing, nothing wide open but good steady fishing. Sometimes you had to soak a bait, other timestickemackerelwas 50 or 60 lb, 6/0 hook, and a one ounce sliding sinker. Not that you needed to get the bait down to the fish, just that the birds were ravenous and it helped keep the bait away from them. As the guys who have been here before, you know why we recommend such large tackle, even so we lost quite a few yellowtail. It ended up being a good day.
