We fished Cedros island late this afternoon and evening for relatively nothing. Lots of wind, some bonito, but we are hoping that the bait will bite for us later this evening. For one reason or another we lost about one tank on the way down and since we are here, we are going to top off before continuing down the Baja peninsula. www.BigFishHappen.com Bruce A. Smith

A few drifts for lings and reds put a little more color in the fish hold and a finish to the trip. All in all it was a successful 10 day run. We would like to thank Jonah from Hi's Tackle Box, Costa del Mar, SeaToSea, and Owner hooks for their generosity with gifts and demo products. This group of anglers was a very friendly, good natured group and we hope to see them back next year. Tomorrow the Shogun will be turning around on another 10 day trip, and all eyes are on "Cow Town" hoping that a consistent bite develops down south. Its not too late to get on one of these fall trips.

Cedros Island once again put a little icing on the cake. We had a late start and a slow start. A nice halibut and just a few yellowtail for the afternoon had us all a little disappointed. As we traveled back down the lee there were a dozen pelicans diving on bait tight to the shore. It could have been a shore casters dream. Well Norm anchored up the Shogun in close and the bite was on. Those beautiful Cedros yellows, 20-35# bit the surface iron and live bait. All on board had several hook-ups, and there is a nice layer of fish in the RSW tank for Friday's offload. If time permits there will be a few drifts for bottom fish tomorrow morning near San Martin Island. For now its secure the deck and prepare for open seas above the north point. The bight continued last night after dinner, yellows bit well throughout the evening. There are few situations when the anglers turn their backs on biting fish, but last night after midnight it was a sure thing with only two or three people at the rail. Once again the yellowtail were 30# and up. At sunrise clear skies and calm seas once again prevailed. The yellows were still biting along with a dozen or so smaller tuna. The bigger yellowfin didn't show show, nor did the wahoo when Norman had us troll around the rocks before leaving. Right now the Shogun is headed for Cedros Island where we will try our hand. Cedros has been kicking out a few surprises, we will be fishing early tomorrow and hope for some solid action. Fishing for a living Capt Pat and the Shogun crew

Last night after dinner we had some of the best fishing of the day. A night bite on the yellows kept passengers and crew busy till around 10:30 when the bite tapered off. Sardines and spanish mackerel on the bottom resulted in yellowtail to 40#. Today the bite continued on the yellows and dorado but a smaller grade. The tuna were around but only a handful hit the deck, ranging up to 70#, the rocks are holding quality fish. Right now all aboard the Shogun are enjoying a tri-tip dinner, and soon thereafter we hope the yellows bite again after dessert. Norm plans to fish the rocks at anchor tomorrow morning then try to troll up some wahoo before heading up the line. Did I mention the weather? At sunrise today the Shogun was midway in our travels to Alijos Rocks. Kelps were hard to find but they produced the classic fall season action we all love. Fast paced action on dorado and wahoo was the game. Live sardine and wahoo jigs were picked up quick. We had a wahoo landed landed on straight mono and a circle hook, a little luck never hurts. The sun has just dipped below the horizon and Norman has anchored the boat at the northwest ridge of the rocks. Tomorrow we are going to target Alijos tuna and yellowtail. The kite will probably go up, fly line sardine for tuna add a sliding sinker for yellows. Glad to report that the weather has come down all day. Tomorrow should be a beautiful day. There are spots available on a few trips this fall. With some luck and good weather those bigger tuna down south may just decide to bite.

The weather keeps trying our patience but we will prevail. Our day began at anchor with dorado and tuna biting at first light. With the anchor up we began looking for sign of the larger yellowfin. By noon we gave up on the area and Norman pointed the Shogun toward Magdalena Bay with more dorado and wahoo the targets. We managed to boat a wahoo and several more nice sized dorado. Right now we are headed toward Alijos Rocks, paddy hopping our way. There were decent catches of tuna at the rocks today, fish in the 40-50# class. We just need the wind and seas to drop off. Today was another tough day of fishing. Early on Norman put us on a spot of fish that immediately took the hook baits. We ended up with a handful of nice yellowfin, the largest pushing 80#. There were several dorado in the mix as well. There was a lot of glassing, looking for dolphins and birds together but they were down most of the day. The fleet is scattering high and tomorrow but the Shogun is going to give at least half the day tomorrow. Tuna over 100 pounds are being spotted so the potential is here.
