Norman put us on one of his hot spots for reds today. We had drifts for straight reds. They must be stacked thick down there. The cod are gorging on krill and baby lizard fish . A few hours of fishing and then its moving up the line once again. Sounds like the albacore bite is all early action, so we want to be in position this evening. If this albacore action breaks out, all the boats are going to be fishing. Check with the office and come fishing with us this summer.

Yellowtail fishing was great today. We fished most of the day at anchor, with a very nice steady bite throughout the day. The kind of bite in which you land a high percentage of fish. No token halibut or grouper, but we did release a 60# black sea bass. We are leaving the island this evening to put ourselves in a good position to fish albacore our last day. Tomorrow Norm is going to give us a few hours fishing cod, and then continue up toward the tuna grounds.

The Shogun arrived at Cedros late this afternoon and Norman began looking for favorable water temps and sign of yellows. As the sun slipped behind the steep island peaks we came upon an area of fish breaking under diving birds. Hookups were instant. Fly lined sardines and jigs once again were the ticket to success. A couple of moves chasing fish put a dozen husky yellowtail aboard before dark. As we ate dinner Norm made a move to put us in position for action tomorrow. The weather is great and we hope the new day produces lots of hookups.

Having just had a great one on one discussion with Blackwater Fishing Line's sales manager I cant wait to toss a sardine at a Cedros yellow fishing their fluorocarbon shock leader. Fishing with todays techniques, braids and short top shots this product has unique shock absorption qualities. Its designed and manufactured to stretch and recover from shock, we all know how spectra has almost zero stretch and Blackwater fluorocarbon helps provide a balanced connection from rod tip to hook set.
On this 5-day trip we will be tying lots of top shots and testing the fluorocarbon knot strength. The line is very hard and reported to pack tightly in knots. Along with almost no memory and transparency the line should result in great live bait presentation. All these qualities I am told are the result of the highest standards in raw materials and manufacturing. Soon all aboard the Shogun will be putting these products to the test. Someone had better warn the fish!

Fishing offshore for tuna rounded out this Bigfishhappen.com sponsored 5 day trip. The albacore continue to be spotty. Jig strikes and following live bait hook ups of albacore and bluefin put fish on the Shogun deck. We are all waiting for a greater volume of fish to fill in locally. These 5 day trips give us much more opportunities than a 3 or 4 day trip when its on the slow at the local banks. As sea temps climb even more options will be available. Tomorrow morning the crew will be busy offloading and preparing for the next trip, we hope to see you on board soon. We have the Willie's 5 day charter comming up with spots available, give the office a call and sspend the 4th with us.

The yellowtail are still around Cedros, we came upon many spots feeding on the surface but the fish are reluctant to come off their natural feed. There are dozens of spots of krill, sardines and mackerel for the yellows to feed on. Its quite a site to witness a school of yellowtail churning the surface a foamy white, they resemble a tuna foamer. With all that said we left the island this afternoon after boating a meager handful for the morning. Those Catchy Tackle jigs were responsible for a few fish. We did manage to successfully release a 70# black sea bass, and are now running up to fish tuna our last day. Wednesday the Shogun will be departing on another 5 day trip sponsored by Blackwater.

Hola everyone,
We had excellent fishing today here at the island. In the morning we were making long drifts over areas of yellowtail that ranged in size from 20 pounds upwards to the high 30's, low 40's. Really beautiful fish, so fat and healthy its looks like they are about to explode. This morning the fish came on heavy Yo-Yo irons such as Catchy tackle Sea Strike 33 in blue and white or chartreuse and white, while in the afternoon it was more of a bait fishing deal with a one ounce slider above a 4/0 hook and sardine taking most of the fish.
Here in the pics you can see Rick Isle, Richard Mosier and yours truly posed with a couple of nice ones; Tom Frew from Boise Idaho along with Pat doing the gaffing honors; Six going on the starboard stern; and then the rewards of one of the productive stops!
I personally would like to thank all the sponsors that helped out with the great give aways for the www.BigFishHappen.com trip.............
Catchy Tackle for jigs and spinner bomb trolling lures,
RingedHooks.com for ringed hooks, stickers and Spanyid jigs and gift certificates
5-Star fish processing for T-shirts, 100 dollar gift certificate
Blackwater fluorocarbon for hats and shock leader fluorocarbon
