Passing the north end of Cedros last night the seas were fair. Today our course line took us through mostly cold or green water. It was strictly a travel day. Football games were listened to in the salon on a portable satellite radio set. BBQ Bill and Dave served up a beautiful sushi-sashimi spread this afternoon featuring yellowtail, bonito, salmon, shrimp and bbq eel. This afternoon snack is always a sell out. The Shogun will be positioned to fish albacore at first light tomorrow morning. Weather reports are calling for 10-15 knot winds tomorrow, we can work with that. All hope to put some albacore on top of the yellowtail in the RSW fish hold.

Today we began fishing the albacore grounds in choppy, windy seas. The fishing was slow for the whole fleet. We had several stops but long stretches looking in between. During the late afternoon the wind was steadily backing down, and in the last hours of the day the albacore were on top feeding. Norman put us on several spots of jumping, feeding fish but no glory stops. Then as daylight was dwindling Norm had a sonar mark for a good school. The bite started slow and then the fish came back to the boat and eagerly took hook baits past dark. We love to end on a high note and we did it this evening. All are happily enjoying their prime rib dinner talking fish stories. Some things never change.

Today we fished all day in the lee of Cedros Island. Norman positioned the Shogun in several locations tight to the island. The fish were most all quality size ranging from 18 to 30#. A few halibut were again in the mix to continue our streak of at least one flattie per trip. Once again the conditions were flat calm with light breeze. Well the honeymoon is over, after dinner we will be running offshore. All fingers are crossed hoping for better weather than last week. We will be looking for fish on kelps as we head to the local albacore grounds where a few boats did well today.

Yellowtail, give thanks for yellowtail. Upon arriving at the north end of Cedros we encountered good yellow sign, working birds and fish on the fathometer. Norm set up the Shogun at "No Name Point" and the fish began to bite shortly thereafter. Only 3 hours of daylight left and the bite was steady till dinner time. Right now we are supplementing the tanks with a few bait sized mackerel. We are going to have all options available as we look for the premium grade forkies tomorrow. Today the fish hit bait and yo-yo jigs well. Color didn't seem to matter, more emphasis on presentation. Those that had trouble casting got bit as well, just let the jig sink to the bottom then a steady grind and... BAM. The conditions are beautiful here in the lee of the island, a light breeze and flat calm seas. Tomorrow promises to be a great fishing day.

This afternoon the Shogun is en route to Cedros Island. This 5 day charter is sponsored by Western Sports Shops in Santa Rosa and San Rafael. The Chartermaster Richard has rods, tackle and other prizes to be given away in a raffle. The twist is you have to buy tickets and all funds will go to the "Friends of Rollo" kids fishing fund. Its a win-win event this evening in the galley. Right now the passengers are enjoying a nice ride down swell, Team Spud from Idaho are aboard making their annual pilgrimage out west. Our initial game plan is yellowtail at the island, and then Norm will weigh his options, which include Guadalupe, albacore, or more yellowtail and some small game on the beach as we head up toward home. For now its dinner with an ocean view, green flash out the starboard window.

Well the passengers and crew prevailed over the seas. The cooks put out great meals and snacks, Captain and crew were searching high and low for albies, and the wind kept blowing. The fishermen on this Baja Dreamer Tackle 5 day trip maintained good spirits throughout. It was a tough fishing day but such is fishing, makes that yellowtail experience all the sweeter. Tomorrow we will be in port, turning around on another 5 day, I think Norman will give the albacore a break.

The Shogun continues an uphill march all day today. The seas are a bit rough and we expect to arrive at the albacore grounds mid-morning tomorrow. All we can do right now is endure the ride and hope that the bite holds through tomorrow afternoon. It would be nice to finish off this 5 day trip with a lick at those 30# grade albies. The local albacore bite has been a great late season boost. Sure it cycles up and down, yet always optimistic.

Today the Shogun had an outstanding day fishing Cedros Island. Yellowtail to 36# came aboard throughout the day. We started the day with an early bite at the south end, and finished the day in the lee. Fish were caught using all customary techniques. Fly line and sliding sinker sardine, dropper loop sardine and mackerel, surface iron and the heavier yo-yo iron jigging. Several halibut are also in the RSW fish hold, the largest about 40#. The weather was sunny, a little on the hot side with very light breezes until we neared the north point. Right now we are running north looking at mostly travel tomorrow. If we make good time Norman will put us on a few drifts for reds and lings. Our final destination is the albacore grounds where some boats did very well today in windy conditions.
