So far, so good. We worked our way south, looking for kelp paddies and finding some quality yellowtail and dorado to keep us busy throughout the day. The wind came up a little bit in the afternoon, but for the most part we had excellent looking conditions. This group is a pleasure to fish with, Jack and John do a wonderful job at reel maintenance and repair, while keeping on the cutting edge of tackle development.

Today was one our better days,( if not the best so far) for catching big albacore! The weather was good, and the fish were up and biting in stops that ranged from five to eighty-five. Nothing truly wide open, everyone stayed with their thirty and forty pound rigs all day as the fish never really came to the corner. There is a voice pod cast at www.BigFishHappen.com if you want to hear the excitement at the time it was happening. The albacore are well within one day range and U.S. waters, so now is the time to jump on a one day boat and go catch some fish!

Well, we made it out here and ended up with a taster of albacore, 14 to be precise. From the looks of the other boats in the area, it was a good day of fishing. So, we are staying in the area and giving it a try tomorrow.

We left today with the boys from WillFish tackle today. This evening we are headed out to the albacore grounds in hopes of putting something on the boat the first day out. The weather is good, so wish us luck.

Today was an extremely slow day of paddy hopping for us. Lots of kelps, good weather, but just because the fish were in one area the previous day doesn't mean they will be there the next. Everyday is different out here.

Last night was a bit on the rugged side. As we passed the north head of Cedros the wind and waves became a little on the bumpy side. In fact so much as to change our coarse of plans from going outside and looking for kelps to going along the beach and catching some cods. The reds and lings bit for us along with the giant squid. Although the weather seems to be coming down its still a little choppy.

It started a little on the slow and cold side, but we wound up gettting steady action on the "premium" grade yellowtail today. Mike Shugars landed two big 'ol halibut, one about 25lbs. and the other comeing in at 35lbs.. Jim Fujitani also landed a nice halibut and took big yellowtail honors with a fish that wieghed in(on a hand scale) at 47lbs. Nice. Good going guys.

Kelp paddies--

Today we hit a series of kelp paddies that produced a number of quality yellowtail and a handful of dorado. After the ssllooww albacore fishing of yesterday, it was a welcome sight to see smiles on everyones faces. The weather kicked up just a little bit, but by going downswell most of the day, we didn't notice it.

post script--I have been noticeing more and more of the small Accurate two-speed reels, and what I have seen is that they are really nice. Put that slick, artistic anodizing on them and you have a reel that eventually your grandkids will own. So far the 870 model is the one which has been putting the hurt on those big yellows down south at Cedros, but I am sure in the near future that it will really shine, once we start going to Guadalupe.
