These darn albacore!

After showing that improved sign for us last night on the way out, today the bite just shut-down. We saw plenty of fish, jumpers, on the machines, but they were playing the same game they have been all year and just not biting. The hot jig of the day, seems to be the mega bait in the smaller sizes. The problem with this is the hook arrangement on them, they are too light and have a tendency to strighten out. Good weather.

ALBACORE AT 55 MILES; ITS NOT OVER YET!

We got away from the dock early, as in 09:00 and this ended up being a good thing. As Shogun cleared the point, we heard some radio chatter that some albacore were being caught. Norman set a course for a drive-by on our way south. Once we arrived in the area, we found schools of biting albacore. This HSU group is one of the luckiest charters we have here aboard the Shogun and they are proving it again!! We ended our afternoon, evening with over fifty albacore and our weather is great.

Well, today was slow. We hit a number of kelp paddy's for really not much, a handful of dorado is all. It seems there were plenty of fish in the water, but possibly from the fishing pressure of the last week, these fish just didn't want to bite. We have almost calm seas which make for good looking conditions.

After three days of fishing, we are bidding Cedros island a fond farewell. Today's action included two white sea bass and four halibut to go along with the good yellowtail fishing. It was as fast paced as yesterday, but the quality is still here along with some unexpected sights.
Tok Yamashita is having a great trip, yesterday he landed the only halibut of the day, while today he got one of the WSB and another big ol' butt.

Tomorrow we will be looking offshore in some new areas, so wish us luck.

It was a good day on the "premium" grade yellowtail here at Cedros island. The fish were biting the fly-lined baits and surface iron with gusto, and our weather was flat calm. Life is good here aboard Shogun and the Nor-cal tuna chasers are making the most of it.

Hi everyone,
Here on Shogun we had a splendid day of hopping kelp paddys. As I stated in my podcast tonight on www.BigFishHappen.com it is a pleasant surprise at the amount of dorado we are seeing this early in the year. In this same area we are catching yellowtail and some smaller yellowfin tuna. As the albacore are moving out this new wave of fish should keep everyone(1 day and 1-1/2 day boats) with smiles on their faces. The weather treated us well and now we are heading further south.

The boys worked hard today for a quick turn around at the dock in preperation of the Nor-cal tuna chasers six day trip. After loading some good looking sardines, we headed south in calm seas and bright skies. Although, the albacore have been almost MIA in the counts as of late, the LR fleet is working on areas of kelp paddy yellowtail, yellowfin and good size dorado.
In the near future, one of our five day trips has a couple of openings, so if you are thinking about hopping on the Shogun here is your chance. August 11, WillFish tackle(the place that we get the topless frames from) has some spots open. Jack and the guys do a great job with lots of give aways and knowledgable service.

Well... the local albacore grounds didn't produce much for us today but misery loves company and we had lots of company. It appears that the albacore are moving out of the area. With local temperatures as high as 71.1, they are not in a mood to bite.. The good news is that yellowfin and dorado are moving in to fill the gap. Tomorrow the charter is a 6 day trip allowing us to go looking for some new action. The fishery is always changing, developing with the season. On that note the Shogun has a few spaces on a 5 day trip leaving August 11,
