Another great day of cod fishing. Lots of reds and lings, with some of the green ones pushing 20 pounds. The squid have seemed to vacated the area, lets hope it holds for the next trip on the up coming weekend. We do have a couple of more spots open, so if you want to go and catch some quality reds and lings give Andrea a call. We leave Friday at 15:00, hope to see you there.

Good evening to all,

Boy its been a long time since the last report!

We left yesterday on our first three day "freezer special" of the year. The weather and ride down were nice, until this morning that is. During the night our wind picked up a bit along with the swell, even though it wasn't terrible. This morning started out slow, sort of has me worried, but at about noon we found a spot of reds that really wanted to cooperate. Lots of red coming over the rail this afternoon made for a really good day of fishing. The giant squid only made a slight showing(knock on wood), in fact just enough to give us bait for today and tomorrow.

Twenty miles to go, the clouds above San Diego reflecting the lights of the city. We had our traditional prime rib dinner and Capt Bruce thanked all aboard and went over offloading procedures. As 2007 comes to a close the Shogun staff and crew would like to thank all who fished with us this year. From the early season cod and San Clemente trips to Cedros yellowtail, local albacore fishing and finishing up with these big yellowfin, 2007 was a good fishing season. We hope you all have a happy holiday and a healthy new year, and us at Shogunsportfishing.net, Norman, Bruce ,the ladies in the office and us on deck hope to see you all in 2008 aboard our boat with a smile on your face and a bent rod in hand.

The wind has come up a little, but we still have fine traveling weather with little swell. The Shogun will be arriving early Wednesday morning, It sounds like a storm is headed to town as well. Now that the schedule for 2008-2009 is out us Shogun crew members are sizing up the season, planning our work rotations. The fishing season begins with our "Freezer Special" trips, a three day cod trip fishing the baja coast. We depart Friday afternoon, returning early Monday. The target species are ling cod and reds with a chance of yellowtail. These are great trips to shake the dust off the fishing gear.

The Shogun is traveling North in very calm seas. Us on deck cleaned up the boat this morning and then it was double feature in the galley, a couple of movies and then dinner. Today's pictures feature Randy in the galley plating up a fine meal of chops, rice and veges. After dinner Steve and Jack retired to the back porch to swap sea stories. Our 2007 fishing season is winding down, the Shogun will be fishing again January 20 on a 14 day trip. A great opportunity to test out the new fishing gear!

The Shogun had another successful day fishing large tuna. Bruce spotted a bird school at some distance and when we pulled up on the spot there were 200 pounders jumping clear out of the water. We hooked several and when the last fish came aboard we continued our search. Todays fish went into the slammer which we converted into a RSW fresh tank. The big fish were gilled and gutted which insures a quick chill down of the big ones. These last fish will be in prime condition for a Christmas dinner, sashimi and grilled steaks! Fishing offshore of Clarion was a challenge, we had to work to locate the fish but they were all respectable size. After a great dinner of calzones and salad we're running for home port in calm conditions. There were tough moments but this trip was a great fishing adventure. Todays photos feature Capt. Bruce Smith with Greg Berteaux and Sol Rosenzweig battling his large tuna and again with the beast subdued.
