The fishing had its ups and downs today at San Clemente Island. The bass bite we've enjoyed lately didn't materialize with any real strength today. During our bottom fish drifts some bonito to 10# pulled some drag. It was an eye opener for those with little experience fighting a saltwater game fish. The wind kept things on the chilly side so in the afternoon we made some stops in Pyramid Cove, and the lee of the island. Some halibut at the east end kept things interesting. In the lee we were looking for yellowtail. We slid upon a spot of feeding fish, but they went down fast.

The fish are here, lets hope that a consistent bite develops in the weeks to come. Next weekend the Shogun will once again be fishing Clemente with a group sponsored by 976-Tuna. With the sea temp slowly creeping up there are bound to be some willing yellows this month.
