This trip will most likely fish Alijos Rocks for large Yellowtail, YFT and grouper. There will also be offshore fishing for BFT. This is the best time of year to catch big yellows at Alijos Rocks. There will be a Shimano representative aboard who will bring a large amount of Shimano rods & reels for passengers to use during the trip. This gives passengers a chance to try some of their newest tackle before they consider purchasing. The rep also brings an excellent selection of prizes to give to passengers.
Book online or call the office. Valid passports are required for all trips aboard the Shogun. -Shogun Crew

Happy New Year!! sorry for the late report folks but it's been a busy week here aboard the Shogun!
We took off early in the morning of the26th and got tanked up with some nice sardines. the bait was on the smaller side but there was a good mix of hook baits. Heading south we Checked in early at Ensenada. Since there were going to be so many boats at Guadalupe, (4 boats departed that morning) we opted to fish the beach for yellowtail and rockfish. We were rewarded day one with 90 yellowtail and over 100 assorted rockfish, including lingcod and reds. Because of our nice start, we spent the night at colonet for day 2. 8 am was our bite time the day prior but our second day started out much slower. With only 7 yellowtails by noon, and two other boats fishing the same spot, we ventured on to find something new. Never finding any sign of yellowtail we finished the day making cod drifts ending up with a few over 50 mixed bottom grabbers again. Hearing promising reports from Guadalupe we Left early and started crossing over to the island with an arrival time of 7 am. The morning started with fair sign of tuna but no biters. Just before lunch we hooked our first one and slowly picked throughout the rest of the day. A few flurries of bites and boils but no red hot action. Fishing was tough, but at the end of the day we landed 8 yellowfin between 60 and 160 pounds. As we left colonet the day prior we ran across a nice water edge with a solid temperature break. Capt. Rene thought there would be good potential to see bluefin tuna around the area so we left Guadalupe in hopes of ending the trip on a high note. As the sun rose over the horizon we searched the area and quickly found a few fish with the meter. Our first drift produced one bluefin tuna coming in at a whopping 155 lbs. it was the only bite of the first drift so we continued hunting and soon found a real school. Crew members Todd and Karl heaved bait over the side and the water erupted with bluefin tuna jumping all around the boat. Our second drift lasted the rest of the day with steady action on 50-70 pound tuna with a couple peanuts in the mix and one 90 pounder. As we ran out of bait and time we had 54 tuna in the well and lots of celebrating . our trip ended with 100 yt, 150 mixed rockfish, 15 lingcod, 8 yellowfin and 54 bluefin tuna and some very happy anglers! it was a n epic way to end 2017!!! Thank you all so much for fishing with us this year! Can't wait to start fishing in the weeks to come, happy New Years everyone! -Shogun Crew |
