Just checking in here with a recap from our Rice Bowl 6 day brought to you by Fred Morioka. This was a dedicated Guadalupe Island trip. We had steady fishing on good grade yellowfin and yellowtail. The majority of our yellowfin were from 80-130 pounds. The 100# Fluoro was the key to success. Fun fishing on the yellowtail with the grade being 18-25 pounds. Guadalupe fish count 34 yellowfin, and 65 yellowtail. On the ride home we stumbled across a kelp to finish off the trip. We managed to capture 45 school sized yellowfin, 5 dorado, and 8 yellowtail. Overall we had good fishing, a great group, and beautiful weather! Back out on an Island Fishing Tackle 7 day.

It didn't take us long to get on a good school of Tuna. Got the anchor down right away and were steady til dark. Half the fish were 70-85#, the other half were 100-130#. Reporting from the Isle of Guadalupe. We departed San Diego late Saturday morning with a very nice load of 6-8" sardines. We were greeted with very smooth following seas on our way to Ensenada. Check in went very fast and before we knew it we were underway for the island. The weather was grease calm on our crossing and we arrived mid afternoon on Sunday. Shortly after we arrived we found a sonar school. We dropped the anchor and the fish stuck to us. We had a slow afternoon only landing one 60 pound yellowfin tuna and had a few escape to fight another day. Licking our wounds we transitioned into bait making which proved effortless. A quick session after dinner and we had a nice tank of mixed greenies and tubes. We woke up Monday with a clean slate. Right after the sun rose we were busy hooking yellowtail. We had steady fishing for our morning landing 28 beautiful Guadalupe grade yellowtail with one in the estimated 60 pound range. Mid morning we made our move and started searching for tuna. We were able to locate some scattered fish but we pushed on till we found the right spot. Just a little bit later we found the right one that turned into multiple blow outs with fish sticking to the boat. All afternoon we had steady fishing on the 50-130# yellowfin. We were able to capture 15 for our efforts. This morning we are waking up on the yellowtail grounds with two tanks of big tube/scad mix. Stay tuned for today's update! -Shogun Crew 
Wonderful group of passengers, very good fishing. 62 Wahoo, Limits of YFT in the 14-30# class, approx. 60 YT, 1 Grouper, 24 Pargo, 15 Dorado. We returned to Fisherman's Landing 12 hours earlier than originally scheduled due to the loss of a gear box. Because of this loss, we did not fish Guadalupe Island. The crew & mechanics worked until 2:15 am Saturday Morning and installed new Drive Plate for the Gear Box. All went well with the repair and sea trial. We appreciate our passengers understanding the loss of the gear box and making the long ride home at 6.5 knots. The boat departed ahead of schedule this morning on the 8-Day True Charter. Charter Master Lynn True brought a ton of goodies and giveaways for all passengers, including customized trip t shirts. We will be reporting more once we start fishing. Wish us luck. -Shogun Crew Sorry for the late report but we have been busy! Sunday was a great first day at the Ridge and Monday was looking promising. There was some small yellowtail and tuna action throughout the night but nothing exceptional. As the morning dawned the chum line started and the fish found us. Right away charter masterEric hooks a nice fish that turned out to be an estimated 100
Pound sailfish (released). The rest of the guys picked away at the wahoo and a handful of nicer tuna. Shortly after breakfast we put the jigs in and trolled around for wahoo. Several short stops and anchor jobs produced 24 wahoo for the day. In the afternoon we anchored up on the high spot and the better grade tuna really got with it. We dropped Over 200 tuna for the day mostly 15-25 pounders. We made another move in hopes of some tasty bottom grabbers and we're rewarded with a pair of Black Sea bass that were released and a nice grouper. We spent the evening on the anchor with plans of motoring north about midnight. At about 11 pm the pargo started biting so Frank gave the guys that stayed up a chance at a few more. We ended up with about 25 fish between 3-8 pounds. Tuesday morning we looked at the Uncle Sam bank for grouper with a few guys getting rocked but no other luck. We worked north looking for kelps in hopes of dorado and wahoo but found only dry ones. Late in the afternoon a kelp was spotted and we collected 16 nice dorado to finish our day. Working north on Wednesday. Weathers is great. -Shogun Crew 
Great morning here at the Ridge folks! We had a few good shots at wahoo ranging from 25-65 pounds, and a total of 30 on the deck so far. To go with that we have 75 tuna ranging from 15-30 pounds. No shortage of action as there are many fish (yellowtail, yellowfin, and skipjack) too small to tag to bend the rods. Weathers absolutely beautiful and the waters up to 76 degrees! Got to go gang we just had a hook up on the troll again !

Checking in on our Bob Sand's 9 day folks. To recap we left Thursday with none other than Frank LoPreste himself at the helm. We were fortunate to load the boat with some beautiful large sized sardines and got underway to our customs appointment in Ensenada. Friday was a travel day and we motored south towards "the Ridge". Saturday morning dawned and we started hunting for yellowtail outside of San Roque. We had tough fishing but managed to scratch out 40 nice yellowtail before moving down to Asunción around lunch time. With only a small handful of smaller grade yellowtail decked, we opted to venture offshore in search of kelp paddies. Hoping to get lucky with dorado or possibly wahoo, But we were only able to find one kelp holding small dorado. We never did find clean blue water before the sun set but continued working toward the ridge. Early Sunday morning we will be fishing around the "15" for wahoo and tuna and working our way south throughout the day towards the "23" where with a bit of luck the tuna will be waiting. Wish us luck out here guys and gals and with a bit of perseverance tomorrow's report will be a more positive one.
